On Being A Fan
There is something so very special about the mentality of the devoted fan. At a certain point the context of the subject (music, art, film, etc.) is subsumed within the personality of that fan and the two become inseparable. I’m not sure everyone gets that sort of connection, but I wish they all did.

Erik is my new email friend. He recently contacted me about a band website I made back in 2001. I totally agree with him re:being a fan.
Being a fan in the above sense is not a negative thing at all—but a mutual relationship, a collaboration. Personal connections like this are also always so interesting and hard to quantify. Like mishearing lyrics of your favorite song for some period of time before you finally take advantage of Google and read the “correct” version online. What you thought you heard will always be more special.
